In recent years, we’ve seen recording artists expand their horizons by venturing into the wonderful world of musical theatre. This time, a seasoned theatre veteran is crossing over into the music recording business. Broadway star Chester Gregory (a.k.a. Chess Gregory) is breaking into the R&B/Soul world with his debut album In Search of High Love.

Although this is his debut recording album, Gregory has been performing for quite some time. His musical performances include key roles in musicals “Tarzan”, “Hairspray” and the lead in “The Jackie Wilson Story”, a biographical musical about the 1960s crooner. As an award-winning Broadway performer with a five octave voice, Gregory’s previous work has drawn acclamations from music legends Michael Jackson, Isaac Hayes and Phil Collins.

Contributing original lyrics and a unique voice, In Search of High Love is an album full of songs about the pursuit of love and the joys and sorrows that comes along with trying to find happiness. In addition to original music, In Search of High Love contains remakes of classic love tunes such as his neo-soul infused rendition of “I Only Have Eyes For You” – the first single to be released from the album. Original songs include poetic pieces “High Love” and “Clouds to The Ground”.

“Most of my songs come out of me ‘having a moment,“ says the Broadway star. The Gary, Indiana native draws inspiration from fellow triple threats Gregory Hines, Sammy Davis Jr., and local hero Michael Jackson.

Samples from In Search of High Love can be heard on Chester Gregory’s official website or MySpace page.
