El Anatsui : Process and Project, Now on View
One the world's premiere contemporary sculptors, El Anatsui creates large scale sculptures using everyday objects. The newly opened Process and Project exhibition provides an insight into this living icon's creative method.
Now on view at BRIC Arts|Media|Bklyn, El Anatsui: Process and Project exhibition is a never before seen exhibition of archival sketches and photographs. El Anatsui, a world renowned sculpture and a Nigerian native originally born in Ghana, creates massive sculptures from seemingly mundane objects. Much of his works are comprised of discarded trash, bottles and cans, he transforms these symbols of emptiness into gilded wall hangings. He began using these found materials in 1999. This series has since grown into an internationally celebrated collection with an active tour schedule.
On view from March 25th to May 2nd, Process and Project provides insight into El Anatsui’s most celebrated works. Featuring preliminary sketches, this exhibition provides insight in to his early wood and ceramic sculptures. This exhibition precedes a retrospective of El Anatsui’s career and work. Premiering next year, El Anatsui’s retrospective is the inaugural exhibition for the newly constructed Museum for African Art on Manhattan’s museum mile. A curatorial talk will be held on in conjunction with the Process and Project show by exhibition curator Lisa Binder. This will be held at the Brooklyn Historical Society, 128 Pierrepont Street on April 15 at 7pm
