GFC Taking Over The Black Apple

Tuesday night at SOB's brought together a contingent of talented artists to tear down the SoHo hot spot. Great performances made the much anticipated wait all worth it as FKi, Jade, Stalley and Mickey Factz each brought the house down.

Tuesday night wasn’t just another night at Soho’s infamous club spot, SOB’s, but was a night of talented artists that made for great live performances.  What was suppose to be a 8 p.m. show turned into a 9:30 start, but the delay didn’t deter the anxious hipster scene from maintaining a high level of energy upon the first act.

First act up was rap duo, FKi.  The Atlanta natives hit the stage loaded with energy as they brought their southern rocker-rap swag.  As soon as they began their set, they made sure to let the crowd know where they were from with an up tempo record, I’m from Atlanta B****. The track was a well received introduction to the night.  Next up was Clap Ya Hands, a type of club song that boasts about success yet maintaining a level of humbleness in which deserves a round applause.  The Satisfaction sample was another up-beat, dance track that displayed the rappers’ versatility and delivery behind the microphone.  It was a great way to open up the night; FKi delivered.

Next up was Brooklyn songstress, Jade.  Her theatrics and props gave a different type of feel and vibe to the hip-hop dominated show, but it was something new and well received as well.  From the beginning to the end Jade poured it all out and left it all on the stage with each song.  With tracks like Up & OutSometimes You Can’t Say It, and Beautiful Problems, Jade displayed her range and her unique style.  Between wardrobe changes and crowd surfing, Jade was indeed the wildcard of the night, yet still managed to bring down the house.

Back to the hip-hop, was an artist known as Stalley.  The Ohio native came on with hard-hitting lyrics and very strong stage presence that demanded attention and was well received. Though there was a short technical malfunction, Stalley was still able to perform hits off his mixtape and new tracks like Masterpiece and Distant Land.  His live band behind him was a very good compliment to his lyrical skills that enhanced his entire performance.  Though we were in NYC, Ohio was very much in the building that night and was felt by all who witnessed.

Last but not least, the man from the Bronx who all came to see, Mickey Factz, blessed the stage. The rock rapper hit the stage in an all black leather jacket with a black leather glove to match (possibly a MJ tribute).  Factz was electric and explosive on the microphone with hits like Who’s Hotter to Automatic.  His unorthodox style was apparent throughout his entire set.  Apart from tearing down the club with his own joints, he took time out to give a very lack-luster tribute to the late great Michael Jackson with his own version of MJ’s most famous hits from Billie Jean to PYT.  Also bringing to the stage a surprise guest in lyricist Cory Gunz to spit a lengthy freestyle to A Milli.  Factz’s performance was indeed the highlight of the night and was well worth the wait.
