What about fashion are you intrigued with the most that would inspire you to come up with your own T-shirt line?

My friends and I always wanted to do something together. And as we thought about what to embark upon, clothing came to mind. Clothes are much more than just material to cover our skin, clothes can convey messages and be a powerful voice to and for the people. That aspect of clothing and fashion is what drew us towards starting our own clothing line. We looked in our closets and saw a lot of brands that made nice looking shirts, but not many of them said anything of significance. So we decided to combine the idea of nice looking shirts with powerful meanings. The way we see it is, clothing is one way to speak to the people, so why not say something worthwhile or convey a powerful message while looking stylish.

What’s the name of your shirt line?

Unfluence Society

What’s the meaning behind Unfluence Society?

The meaning behind Unfluence Society isn’t just confined to one interpretation. It actually has a few meanings. The first and probably most used and obvious meaning is that the name is meant to say that we are trying to Un-Influence Society of all its negative aspects and influences on people. So by joining the Un and Influence we got our own word Unfluence.

The second meaning, which is a little hidden, is to read the name like this, U (as in You) Nfluence as in (Influence) Society. So basically its saying that [You] the individual should influence society, and not the other way around, so that each of us are helping to shape the world into the place we want to see.

The third meaning is actually a secret, and is only known by the company members and a few other close company affiliates. We are hoping that by having the third meaning a secret it might add a bit of mystique to our company, and will prompt people to learn more about us. The third meaning can be figured out with enough information about us. [Laughs]

What’s the idea behind your line?

Unfluence Society is a clothing line that goes beyond creating clothes, which are merely aestethetically pleasing. We are a clothing line that allows are wearers to look stylish, while projecting ideas and messages that promote new ways of interacting with one another. The company was born from our desire to undo the negative influences of society on people, while promoting the positive things we see and experience in society. Things like conformity, stereotypes, racism, controversial issues are just a few things that we address with our clothing line. We hope to shape our generation into powerful thinkers that actively engage in the defining of the world they live in, as opposed to simply accepting things they are told without questioning their validity, morality, etc…

As I looked at a couple of your pieces, there seems to be a lot of graphics, pictures, words, and distinct messages. Is that an on-going trend of the line. A meaningful, positive messages?

Yea definitely, nearly all our shirt designs have meanings, messages, or sayings to them. Some of the shirts are purely graphic, some are purely message, and others are a combination of both. However, every shirt that dons the words Unfluence Society produced by us, with or without a message or design, will itself be a representation of all the things Unfluence Society stands for and believes in. We will continue to produce shirts with sayings, designs and messages but hope that overtime our name alone will represent all the ideas, messages and beliefs present on our shirts and visible through the words we speak and the manner in which we act.

Who’s behind the line?

It was a collective effort when it came to coming up with the name for our clothing line. Every member, myself (Reggie Edu), Mark Araujo, Darnel Mcdermott, Michael Barbeito, Michael Arballo, in the clothing company contributed in some way along the path that lead us to finally choosing Unfluence Society as our clothing company name.

How does US match up to competitive t-shirt line out in the market today?

I think our name is pretty effective and competes well with other graphic tee companies out there today for two reasons. The first reason is that it’s a catchy name, its different, it sparks interest and makes people want to know what it means right off the bat. And the second reason is that our name tells the buyer exactly what we are all about. Our name sums up our entire mission (To unfluence society) in two words, any name that can accomplish that in two words I think is pretty effective.

When someone purchases a shirt, what can they expect from wearing the brand?

Any person wearing the shirt can expect a quality feeling shirt that will look stylish while conveying a message to people that the wearer is not a product of society, but rather is actively helping to shape the product that is society. When you wear Unfluence Society it lets people know you stand for something.

Though you’re a relatively new line on the rise, what do you foresee for this company?

I foresee our company working hard to get our ideas and messages out there. God willing, I foresee that people will relate to and embrace our ideas and will want to wear our shirts, which will help our company expand.

For the future, can we expect any other pieces from your line? (jeans, hoodies, etc)

In the near future we will be releasing long sleeve tees and possibly hoodies, beanie and hats. In the long term we may look to expand to jeans and other clothing, but for now we are sticking to what we know, which is graphic tees.

Are your pieces available for purchase?

Yes via contact through Facebook, Myspace, Email, or telephone.
