Manny Proves “Life is a Show”
This young woman is embracing every talent that she has within herself and shows no signs of stopping. Actress and singer/songwriter Cassie Steele shows that her acting is just as good as her singing
TV actor turned hip-hop rapper “Drake” Graham isn’t the only student from Degrassi who is pursuing his passion in music. Actress Cassie Steele, who plays the role of mischievous sweetheart Manny Santos, let her light shine as she performed “Life is a Show” in her latest movie, “Degrassi Goes Hollywood.”
In the Degrassi Unscripted documentary, the Toronto native is shown in the recording studio singing and arranging music and vocals with her producer, Eejew Sim. She stated that she consults with Sim about whether a band or a few instruments will align with her melodies and lyrics. Her producer spoke fondly of Steele’s music abilities.
“Anyone can see her potential,” Sim said. “She’s got the look … she’s just a natural.” Steele hoped that she will be credited as a singer/songwriter when she gets signed to a label, as she equates them both as a passion. Steele got what she hoped for when she was signed to Rob ‘N’ Steal Productions and her first album, How Much for Happy, which dropped in Canada in March of 2005. The album dropped in the U.S. just one month later. Her second album, Destructo Doll, was released on July of this year. Totally setting herself apart from her typical image as the sweet-faced seductress on the popular TV show, Steele has transitioned beautifully to the rock/grunge genre and is on her way to being a multifaceted celebrity.
“I don’t have to be known for being big. I don’t have to be a superstar, I just want people to know my music,” Steele said. Steele was featured on RollingStone.com after her second album came out. Steele described that the songs she wrote have a grungy, raw feel. Steele enjoys working in both the music and television industry and hopes to go further with tours and movie roles.
Steele got her start in acting as a young girl after taking a couple of acting classes. Soon after, she auditioned not only for Degrassi: The Next Generation, but she also landed an episode in the Canadian series, Relic Hunter, where she played the main character at a young age, Sydney Fox. Since then, Steele has appeared in other television shows and movies. Steele’s bubbly personality and hard work captures her nuance and continuing to bring the best to her fans.
