Mimi Knows What’s Haute
Young, beautiful and the boss of her own brand Millissa Mathai is the founder of Haute Mimi. Childhood dreams have turned reality as this glam girl has turned her eye for fashion into her career. As editor-in-chief of Haute Mimi, an online blog of high end fashion and luxury goods, Millissa is the boss of her own and doesn’t shy away from telling you what’s haute and what’s not.
Who wouldn’t want to live their dream, be their own boss and last but not least make a good profit off of it? Many people would love to do so, but there are a few that are actually turning their adolescent habits into reality, take note to Millissa Mathai. Since she was a youngster she’s always been into fashion, “I’ve always loved fashion since I was a little girl, while other girls were playing with Barbie and I was making clothes for her.“ Not even Millissa knew that one day her love for putting together fashion lines for Barbie would turn into what she plans to do for the rest of her life.

Just five years ago, at the tender age of 15, Millissa created Haute Mimi. At the time just a private blog for her boost and criticize the good and bad looks of fashion for each season. Little did this fashionista realize that her opinionaated eye would turn from an online journal to a resourceful blog in the world of fashion. Starting out with just 2 (not including herself) and now accumulating 20,000 readers that was when Millissa felt that this is something she could take on full time, “I basically just jumped into it, I didn’t know what I was doing and it just came together. Like one thing led to another.” And that’s what in fact happened as her readership grew so did Haute Mimi.

If one was to ask where Haute Mimi derive from, there’d be many discussions over it’s meaning. But the founder could tell you herself that you don’t need to whip out the dictionary for this one. Simply a nickname, ‘Mimi’ and ‘Haute coming from the creative mind of Millissa herself, “I decided to put Haute in front of’ that and be a little cheeky with that,” implied Millissa.

To date, Haute Mimi is gaining more and more popularity in the fashion world. With writers all over the world the site has exceeded all the unexpected standards, but Millissa is looking to take it to the next level — print. An area that during this time is very stagnate it seems that the ambitious editor-in-chief isn’t worried the negative aspects of a print publication. Ahead of the game, Millissa has already stratgized her way to not be defeated by harsh reality of the print world. Stating so confidently, “ when we do go to print it would be a more luxury thing if people want to spend the money. It wouldn’t’ be a mainstream magazine, if they want to see the photo shoots we put together etc. It would be over 10 dollars, we’re not trying to make money off it, and it’s just to build our brand and being more credible.” A bold business move at that, but this 20 year old go getter isn’t at all concerned, her decisions has gotten her this far and she doesn’t intend to stop or slip up now.
