Rosa’s Third Annual Fashion Show

On the evening of Thursday, August 27, a small crowd gathered for Rosa’s 3rd Annual Fashion Show hosted at Harlem Lanes on the 4th floor lounge and bar. Coordinator, Sharon Walker, better known as Rosa, blended fashion, poetry, comedy and song for an evening to remember.

Up-and-coming designers Tyesha Lane, Marcos Guareno (Mr.Magu), Austin Paul and Sharah Grayson showcased their collections for men and women. In between designers, entertainment by comedian, Key Fitz; Poet, Ghetto Jedi; and singer, Yoodee Frances engaged the audience.
This year, Walker’s production has grown with more models, designers, photographers and sponsors such as Mizani and Caribbean Life Newspaper on board.
Walker decided to coordinate her own shows after she was “disappointed of the treatment of the staff and especially the models backstage.”
“I love and crave fashion, I’m always on the lookout for new ideas,” she said. “I’m always welcome to comments from others so I can see the areas I need to improve upon.”
Walker chose Harlem Lanes with its chic black and red décor as venue because she felt it was unique. Last year’s show was hosted at Aurum also located in Harlem.
When choosing talent for her shows, a strong work ethic, a humble attitude and desire and drive all come into play.
Two of Walker’s selections: designer, Austin Paul and singer, Joodee Francis are definitely two young stars to watch.
Francis captivated the audience with her latest single “Material Girls.” Small in stature but equipped with bold vocals, Francis’ energy and bubbly stage presence kept the crowd entertained in between designers.
Paul’s menswear line combined classic key pieces with a modern edge.  His attention to detail and bold choice of fabrics is ahead of its time.  Several women in the audience whispered to each other about coveting his sequined sweater perfect for a chilly fall evening.
Rosa’s Resources has continued to grow in the past few years and is expanding their reach. Walker plans on organizing shows each quarter instead of each year. In addition, the company will be assisting others coordinating events and shows.
Walker is inspired the Harlem and the fashion set who lives within its city limits.
“[I believe] that Harlem is diverse and that what sets them apart from the other boroughs [in terms of fashion].
