The Girl Behind the Look
Striking, provactive, artistic, aspirational, inspirational all describe the photographs that fill the Lookbook. Lookbook.nu, if you haven't heard about it, you much have been living under a rock or not an avid fashion follower like myself. The site is popular among photographers, fashionistas and their admirers worldwide. Featuring images from the streets of Paris to the boroughs of New York.
Yuri is the girl behind the Lookbook (more correctly the young lady), whose love for fashion teamed up with her boyfriends tech skills to create a phenomenon that took off in popularity in its short year of existence. I posed 2 questions to Yuri about the site and here is what she had to say:
inCOLOR: The site is truly amazing! How did it all begin?
To me practical fashion inspiration comes from real people, with the addition of influences from the runways or magazines. My boyfriend and I realized we could make a site that gathered looks
from real people all over the world, creating a virtual lookbook of contemporary street styles. This was of course inspired by sites like the Sartorialist and other “what are you wearing today” forums.
LOOKBOOK was born in April 2008 out of our small apartment in San Francisco, and soon after we quit our jobs to work on LOOKBOOK full
time!

My boyfriend and I met in college and we moved to San Francisco together after graduation. He is the genius programmer behind the scenes and I do just about everything else! Working on LOOKBOOK.nu is a 24/7 job, but on our free time we love to play with our two cats, shop, visit friends, and eat delicious food!
As well as what the site has become, which is amazing in just about a year! The site has grown and so has our ego - I guess you could say we are very important people. Just kidding! We’re just happy that people like our site and continue to share their beautiful style and photos. LOOKBOOK has over 40,000 registered members who post about 800 looks each day, and over one million unique visitors per month!
