Sister Act
You tuned into their show every week. We've watched them grow up and mature in the spotlight. When you see one face, you think of the other and those words sneak up in your head, "Go home Roger!"
When twin sisters Tia and Tamera Mowry starred in the series Sister, Sister, people got a chance to see the perks and quirks of twin life in a comical manner. In between the laughs, these girls got a chance to both have fun with the typical antics of a teenager and have some real talk on real life issues, such as dating, maintaining a part-time job while in school, shoplifting and Internet predators. Everyone was used to seeing these two girls together, in the Harlem World music video, Doublemint Gum commercials and even on a special episode of Nickelodeon’s Blues Clues.
After their popular series ended in 1999, Tia and Tamera enrolled in Pepperdine University and earned their Bachelor’s degree in psychology. Shortly after college, both girls were on the big screen in 2002’s “The Hot Chick,” starring Rob Schneider. As the years progressed, the young women matured beautifully in and out of the spotlight. They reunited many times onscreen in Disney films of the early 2000s “Seventeen Again,” “Twitches” and “Twitches Too” while taking on solo projects that showed the world the differences beyond their identical appearance.
Tamera Mowry went on to star in the movie “Something to Sing About,” with Darius McCrary (Family Matters) and Irma P. Hall (Soul Food) in 2001. In 2004, she joined the cast of Lifetime’s Strong Medicine as Dr. Kayla Thorton and proved that her dramatic acting was just as impressive as her comedic acting. Tia also made a special guest appearance as Thorton’s twin sister, Keisha. Some of Tamera Mowry’s latest gigs include a few voice-over appearances in the cartoon shows Family Guy and The Super Hero Squad Show and the ABC sitcom Roommates.
Tia Mowry Hardrict went on to do voice-over work for the Bratz cartoon series and films. In 2006, Hardrict switched from voice over back to sitcom acting and starred in the CW’s The Game as Melanie Barnett, a young medical student supporting the football dreams of her boyfriend and eventual husband, Derwin Davis, played by Pooch Hall. In 2008, Tia married Cory Hardrict of Lincoln Heights.
While Roomates and The Game were prematurely canceled, Tia Morwy Hardrict and Tamera Mowry have another project underway. According to Sister to Sister Magazine, the sisters are working on an upcoming movie, “Double Wedding,” and it will be somewhat of a family reunion with their mother working as the executive producer. The premise of the film is about two sisters involved with the same man. Production has already started and the film is expected to be released sometime next summer.
In various interviews, both sisters have always brought up the importance of spirituality, family and how fun is working with one another. These women, like many others before them, have created their own definition of success at its best. With humility, ambition, perseverance, and always improving their talents, these multi-faceted women can’t be stopped.
