VICIO Headlines at the Canal Room
In need of new rock tunes that remind you of classics? VICIO takes influences from ‘70s rock, ‘80s pop and ‘90s grunge as well as their diverse upbringings in California, New York and Brazil to create their sound.
VICIO was originally formed in Brazil in late 2005, when lead singer Samira Ashley was on tour for a solo project and met Ricardo Lima-Diniz of Santos, Brazil. The two later relocated to New York City where they met Corey Hannah (bassist) and Matthew Rullo (drums) in 2007.
Combining classic rock music from the last 30 years, the band can be classified as “New Rock”. VICIO takes influences from ‘70s rock, ‘80s pop and ‘90s grunge as well as their diverse upbringings in California, New York and Brazil to create their sound. Lead singer Samira Ashley further describes their sound by defining the band’s music as “Led Zeppelin meets Madonna’s illegitimate child”. According to Ashley, “My vocals usually have a Madonna-like influence, but the guys are really rock.”
VICIO has performed at multiple venues throughout New York City, including The Knitting Factory, Crash/Mansion, and the Delancey. For their next big performance, VICIO will headline at the Canal Room on Wednesday August 5th. The show will begin at 8pm with opening acts by alternative/soul singer Danielle Parente, rockers NeverOddOrEven and DJ Rob Flow. During their performance VICIO will perform their singles “I Woke” and “Strangers”. Tickets are available in advance on TicketWeb and at the door for $10.

The band currently has two EP’s that have been independently released and are available on iTunes. The two albums, The Fantastic World Of (2007), and War on You (2008) can also be purchased at live shows.
